Dana Tradition

Bodhimarga is an active spiritual community dedicated to the study of Buddhadharma.  Dana (generosity or giving) lies at the heart of it.

Within the Buddhist tradition, dana may be offered in different ways with various levels of understanding, and always with joyful intent.  Through the unconditional act of giving, we  provide fertile ground to bring happiness and its causes to all sentient beings, by developing and supporting platforms for the transmission of authentic Buddhist teachings. A dana offering can also be made directly to a spiritual teacher in appreciation for the teacher’s great qualities and virtues, and out of a true spirit of generosity.

Our efforts are effective and fruitful only due to the generosity of our supporters, dharma students, committee members, and leaders, who take personal responsibility to create the causes and conditions for the teachings to continue.  These causes may be a gift of time and energy or financial contributions to bring the precious benefit of study and practice to oneself and others.

“VTP Fund” is a discretionary fund that has been created to support our Spiritual Director, Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi who travels all over the world for his Dharma activities including teachings and transmissions freely. Many times hosts are unable to cover all the costs and we would like to help.

Please consider becoming a “Virtuous Friend” by giving monthly to Bodhimarga. We sincerely hope that you find within yourself the wish to support our mission!

“The practice of giving is universally recognized as one of the most basic human virtues, a quality that testifies to the depth of one’s humanity and one’s capacity for self-transcendence. In the teaching of the Buddha, too, the practice of giving claims a place of special eminence, one which singles it out as being in a sense the foundation and seed of spiritual development.”
